October 3rd - The House Of The Devil

If you didn't know any better you could pass this film off as an old vhs copy you found in the basement of an old movie store. The House Of The Devil only received a dvd release in the last year but looks and feels like it was in shot the late 70s and would remain in a Midnite Movie pack.

It follows a young college girl who picks up a babysitting job at a house in the woods on outskirts of town. When she arrives there she soon learns that the job is not to baby-sit kids at all, but an old women instead.

The film is a slow burn until the last third of the movie where the pay off is worth the wait. The events which ensue are nothing short of the fantastic: stabbing, shooting, cloaks, a witch, animal skulls, pentagrams and the hope that a sacrificial prophecy will come true.

If you don't mind a film that whose intent is a build towards the ending with some fun bumps along the way, then this is for you. It feels and looks old like an grindhouse slasher/satanic mass feature that Polanski and Hooper lent some ideas for...don't miss The House Of The Devil.
